Pocahontas
Pocahontas was a Native American princess of chief Powhatan born around 1595 near the settlement of
Jamestown Virginia. She met English settlers that were living in Jamestown Colony 1607. Pocahontas met John Smith
met and developed a great friendship till john left in 1609. Pocahontas was the Indian girl that helped settle Jamestown
Colony by giving them food, showing them the land, and protecting them against the Indian attack. After john left the
relationship between the settlers and the tribe did not last. The English settlers told Pocahontas that john had died so she
did not return to the colony for four years till a man by the name of Sir Samuel Argall took her prisoner. He took her
hoping to secure the return of not only English weapons, but English settlers that had been taken prisoner by the
Powhaten Empire. Argall kept Pocahontas even though her father released seven of the prisoner, but not the weapons and
he refused to negotiate any further. Pocahontas was then taken to Jamestown and then later to another settlement known
as Henricus. There she was treated with great respect and courtesy. She was turned into a Christian and baptized as
Rebecca. Later on she met a man named John Rolfe a English settler. In 1613 she accepted his proposel for marriage and
both the Governor of Virginia and her father Chief Powhatan agreed to the marriage which took place April of 1614.
After the marriage peace came between the English and the Indians once again. In the spring of 1615 she had a son
named Thomas. In 1616 Pocahontas, John and Thomas sailed with the governor to England for a royal festival. When
Pocahontas was preparing to return to America she became very ill. She passed away on March 21, 1617.

The one thing I value the most in my life is my family. A family like mine cannot be replaced nor can you find another
like it. I have a wonderful loving mom, a crazy weird dad, and two very smart and beautiful sisters. We have our days
were we don’t get along or even talk together, but it’s a typical family. I, of course have aunts, uncles, cousins, an
stepmom, stepsiblings and grandparents but not who I talk to daily. I’m going to soon have a baby myself due at the end
of October, which will be my main priority. I have many friends and then I have my best of friends who I have gone
through just about everything with and they have always stood by me, and helped me through my problems just as I
help them through theirs. I believe in God and His higher power. I’m a Luthern Christian, but I do not go to church as
much as I should. I have goals set for my future that I hope to succeed even as a single mother. My life journey has not
been easy nor will it be easy for me in my future. But I have family and friends that have always been there to help me
whenever I call on them.
